Monday, Sept. 13
5:33 p.m. A 30-year-old African-American man was shot in the torso in the 1700 block of Kane Street near the southeastern city line in the early evening. He died at an area hospital at 7:10 p.m. Police are waiting until his family has been notified to release his name.

Thursday, Sept. 16
11:11 a.m. Paul Pardus, a 50-year-old African-American man from Arlington, Va., was at Johns Hopkins Hospital. His mother was a patient there and Pardus was speaking with orthopedic surgeon David Cohen about her condition. During this discussion, Pardus became upset and pulled out a semiautomatic handgun. He shot Cohen in the stomach and then ran into his mother’s room. Cohen was rushed to surgery and survived. Pardus remained in the room for more than two hours. At 1:35 p.m. police entered the room and found Pardus and his mother, Jean Davis, an 84-year-old African-American woman, dead. Police believe that Pardus shot his mother and then himself during the commotion right after Cohen was shot.

Friday, Sept. 17
7:50 p.m. A woman was found dead after Dlana Simmons, a 34-year-old African-American woman, called 911 and allegedly identified herself and said, "My aunt is lying on the floor dying because I hit her with a club." Police went to the home of Simmons’ aunt Cecelia Mitchell, a 66-year-old African-American woman. She had severe head trauma and died at a local hospital at 8:37 p.m. Simmons was arrested and charged with Mitchell’s murder.

Sunday, Sept. 19
4:29 a.m. Isaiah White, a 28-year-old African-American man, was shot while changing a tire in the 2900 block of Edgewood Street. A car pulled up near White while he was dealing with his tire. Words were exchanged between White and someone in the car, who then shot White. He died 40 minutes later at an area hospital.

4:43 a.m. Shortly afterward in Baltimore's east side, George Lewis, a 25-year-old African-American man, was discovered lying in the street in the 1200 block of Bonaparte Avenue. He had been shot in the head. Lewis died at a nearby hospital at 7:42 a.m.

Updates: Frank Jenkins, a 37-year-old African-American man, was sentenced to 40 years in prison Sept. 3. Earlier this year, Jenkins pleaded guilty to murdering Demetrius Saulsbury, a 22-year-old African-American man. Saulsbury was visiting his girlfriend in the 1700 block of North Washington Avenue on Feb. 4, 2009. Jenkins was upstairs with his girlfriend—the mother of Saulsbury’s girlfriend. Jenkins was angry that Saulsbury was there late and insisted he leave. Saulsbury was waiting for a cab when Jenkins came back downstairs. According to the State’s Attorney’s Office, “Jenkins ranted about how he's the man of the house and that no one respects him.” Saulsbury was about to get into the cab when, as quoted in a State's Attorney's Office press release, Jenkins told Saulsbury’s girlfriend, “You're gonna respect me now!” and shot Saulsbury in the back of the head.

On Sept. 10, Dajuan Marshall, a 28-year-old African-American man, was granted a new trial. Marshall was convicted on Aug. 9 of murdering Kenneth Jones, a 26-year-old African-American man. Marshall and another man allegedly found Jones downtown and forced him into the trunk of a car at gunpoint on June 8. Jones was found shot in the head in the 4500 block of Bonner Road just after midnight on June 9. The murder was allegedly gang related. During the hearing jurors testified that there was juror misconduct during the original trial. In particular, a juror looked up Marshall’s criminal record.

Allen Banks,a 29-year-old African-American man, was sentenced to 19 years in prison on Sept. 14 for the murder of Collin Mazyck, a 24-year-old African-American man. Mazyck was shot repeatedly in the 2700 block of Tivoly Avenue on Jan. 17, 2008. Banks claimed he was recording music at a studio at the time of the murder but an analysis of the equipment proved that no recording was made at that time.
