This week a shooting from 20 years ago was ruled a homicide. On March 13, 1990, Franklin Spencer, a 25-year-old African-American man, was shot multiple times in the 1500 block of West Franklin Street. He survived, but was confined to a wheelchair. He died on Nov. 4, 2004, as a result of his injuries. His medical records were recently pulled and reviewed, and on Aug. 11 of this year, his death was ruled a homicide. The ruling brings this year’s total homicides to 136, just two short of last year’s total at this time.

Wednesday, Aug. 11

12:22 a.m. Shawn Wright, a 20-year-old African-American man, was found lying in the street in the 1600 block of North Broadway, a few blocks south of the National Great Blacks in Wax Museum. He had been shot in the back and was pronounced dead at an area hospital at 12:47 a.m.

Thursday, Aug. 12

2:00 a.m. A citizen flagged down an officer who was driving south on Garrison Boulevard and directed the officer to a stoop on the 3400 block. A man who has still not been identified was sitting on the front steps of a house with blood flowing from his head, apparently from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thursday, Aug. 12

2:27 a.m. Gerald Gray, a 35-year-old African-American man, was found sitting in a BMW convertible near the corner of Edison Highway and Lawnview Avenue, not far from Clifton Park. He had been shot repeatedly and was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Friday, Aug. 13

10:12 p.m. Two men were in a car headed down the 3500 block of Horton Avenue near Garrett Park in Brooklyn when they were both shot. They went to an area hospital, where one was released after being treated for gunshot wounds to the hand. The other, Andre Graham, a 28-year-old African American man, had been shot in the head and back. He was pronounced dead at 11:55 p.m. Dane Shives, a 21-year-old Caucasian man from Glen Burnie, was arrested the next day and is a suspect in the shooting.

Friday, Aug. 13

11:51 p.m. An unidentified African-American man was found lying in the 2000 block of Robb Street, a couple of blocks north of Green Mount Cemetery. He had been shot multiple times and died at an area hospital about an hour later.

Sunday, Aug. 15

4:15 a.m. An unidentified African-American man was found lying on the sidewalk in the 400 block of East Chase Street, just north of the city jail. He was suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was taken to an area hospital, and pronounced dead at 4:55 a.m.
