Two murders less than an hour apart on Sept. 30 gave way to an unprecedented lull last week, with only four reported non-fatal shootings and one stabbing at a comedy club that injured two people, but not seriously. The stabbing, as reported by The Baltimore Sun, happened Sunday night, Oct. 6, at about 9 p.m. during the Aries Spears show at the Comedy Factory in Power Plant Live on Market Place. A group of patrons disputed their bill and two bouncers ended up stabbed. Police said they caught the people involved.

Monday, Sept. 30

6:15 p.m. Stephan Burley, a 32-year-old African-American man, arrived at the home of his estranged wife on the 3600 block of Benson Avenue in the Violetville neighborhood. He found her with her current boyfriend, Dennis Freeman, and the two men fought. Police say Freeman used a folding knife and cut Burley multiple times. Burley was pronounced dead at 7:11 p.m. Police have charged Freeman, a 29-year-old African-American man, with first-degree murder.

6:50 p.m. Less than an hour later and 5 miles north, Northeast District officers responding to the 3000 block of Tivoly Avenue in the Coldstream Homestead Montebello neighborhood found Andre Miller, a 31-year-old African-American man, on the street with gunshot wounds to the head and upper torso. He was dead.
