No murders were reported from Sunday, Aug. 4 until Sunday, Aug. 11. That was the longest stretch without a murder since March, when, after a spate of multiple killings, the city saw almost nine full days with no murders, between March 19 and 28. In May 2011 Baltimore went 11 days without a killing, which was described as the longest murderless stretch in years.

That’s not to say the city was without violence. There were 11 non-fatal shootings reported during the week, including a man who was shot in the neck on the 3900 block of South Hanover Street just before 2 p.m. on Aug. 6. He was taken to a hospital and his condition was unknown.

Monday, Aug. 12

1:46 a.m. An African-American man whose identity was not released at press time was in the NY Fried Chicken restaurant at 1301 W. Baltimore St. when someone came in and shot him at least once with a handgun. Police responded to the shooting, and emergency workers took the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:40 a.m.
