Murders this Week: 5; Murders this Year: 126
Published: July 17, 2013
Another double homicide (the second in two weeks) punctuated the week’s murders, along with at least seven non-fatal shootings. A man bludgeoned in March, who died in June, was added to the homicide roll on July 11 by the Medical Examiner’s Office, The Sun reported.
2:24 a.m. Trey Charles Powell, 24, and another African-American man were on the 1800 block of East Lanvale Street when another African-American man (or men) came and shot them both. Eastern District police and medics came and took both men to hospitals, but Powell, who lived seven blocks away on the 1600 block of Caroline Street, died.
11:55 a.m. Dwayne Robinson Webb, a 34-year-old African-American man, was visiting his sister, Natasha Elizabeth Bates, a 40-year-old African-American woman on the unit block of North Fulton Avenue when someone shot them both to death. It was the fifth multiple homicide in Baltimore this year. Webb had been wounded in a shooting last year, the Sun reported, and had picked his assailant out of a lineup before he stopped cooperating with prosecutors. That shooter, Gremeco Redd, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and was sentenced to serve five years in prison. It was not clear if the two incidents were related.
The state medical examiner ruled the death of Walter Salter a homicide, according to a report in The Sun. Salter, a 59-year-old African-American man, was found bludgeoned in a home on the 100 block of North Kenwood Avenue on March 27. He died on June 4.
8 p.m. Ramon Rodriguez, a 21-year-old Hispanic man, was near the intersection of Gough and South Lehigh streets in the Kresson neighborhood when someone shot him in the head. He died shortly afterward in an area hospital. Police say Rodriguez knew his killer, and they know him too. They were searching for him on Sunday.
