After a relatively quiet previous week, Baltimore saw as many homicides as days in the week for the second time this year. As of Feb. 25, there have been nine more homicides than at the same time last year.

Monday, Feb. 18

11:12 P.M. David Armstrong, a 47-year-old African-American man, was discovered lying at the bottom of a stairwell in an apartment building in the 4300 block of Adelle Terrace in Irvington. He was shot repeatedly and died at an area hospital.

Tuesday, Feb. 19

6:09 P.M. A boy finished school for the day and went to his house in the 3900 block of Frisby Street, a few blocks from Greenmount and 39th streets. He heard arguing upstairs and then heard several loud bangs. The boy went upstairs and found his mother, Candace Baird, a 33-year-old African-American woman, on the floor. She had been shot several times and was dead. Her husband, Alvin Baird, a 36-year-old African-American man, was also dead. He had been shot in the head. Police believe Alvin Baird shot his wife and then himself. This is the fourth domestic-violence homicide in the last three months, the second that ended with the alleged killer committing suicide.

Thursday, Feb. 21

10:25 P.M. Michael Jones, a 38-year-old African-American man, was shot numerous times at the corner of North Fremont Avenue and Bennet Place. He died before he could be taken to a hospital.

Friday, Feb. 22

4:44 A.M. The fire department was called for a car on fire in the 2000 block of North Monroe Street in Mondawmin. Inside the car, firefighters found two bodies—Alysia Strickland, a 33-year-old African-American woman, and Taewon Tuck, a 34-year-old African-American man. Their bodies were taken to the medical examiner’s office, where a Feb. 24 autopsy determined that Strickland and Tuck died as a result of gunshot wounds.

Sunday, Feb. 24

10:50 P.M. There was a second double homicide this week. Police went to the 1700 block of Montpelier Street for a shooting and discovered a male laying in the street shot. Nearby, they found a Cadillac with the passenger side door open. A female was lying facedown in the backseat of the car. She had also been shot. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither had been identified by police as of press time.

Updates

On Feb. 15, Alton Teel, a 48-year-old African-American man, was convicted for the second time of murdering Daniel Savage, a 32-year-old African-American man. Savage was found lying in the street in the 1500 block of North Bradford Street on Feb. 21, 2007. He had been shot in the head and body. Teel was convicted the first time on April 14, 2008, and sentenced to life in prison plus 20 years, but according to the State’s Attorney’s Office, in 2011, that conviction was vacated due to an issue with jury selection. Teel was convicted of the lesser charge of second-degree murder during the most recent trial and can receive no more than 50 years in prison.
