12:33 p.m. Shortly after noon, Miguel Crosby, a 26-year-old African-American man, was in a parking area in the rear of the 500 block of Coventry Road in the Beechfield neighborhood. He got into some sort of altercation with two males during which at least one pulled out a gun and shot Crosby. He died at 1:14 p.m. at an area hospital. This is the second murder in Beechfield this year. There were no murders in this neighborhood in 2011.
Despite just one murder this week, Baltimore City's homicide total as of Monday, Sept. 17 is three higher than at the same date last year. Baltimore City's homicide rate continues to be much higher than neighboring cities. Baltimore's per capita homicide rate is 24 per 100,000 residents while Philadelphia's is 16 and Washington is 10. If Baltimore had Philadelphia's homicide rate, 49 fewer people would have been murdered this year. If Baltimore had D.C.'s homicide rate, 91 fewer people would have been murdered.
