Tuesday, June 19

10:10 P.M. Tavon Whelchel, an 18-year-old African-American man, was shot repeatedly in the 2100 block of West Pratt Street in Carrollton Ridge. Whelchel had been walking when someone opened fire on him without warning. He died at a city hospital at 6:50 P.M. the next day. Whelchel is the 16th teenager murdered this year.

Wednesday, June 20

2 A.M. Louis Womack IV, a 36-year African-American man, was shot in front of his house in the 4000 block of Boarman Avenue in Northwest Baltimore. He made his way into his home, where his family found him and called 911. Womack died at a nearby hospital at 2:56 A.M. Womack was the 100th homicide victim of 2012.

Sunday, June 24

7:45 P.M. Police found an unidentified African-American man lying next to an SUV in a parking lot in the 1000 block of North Central Avenue. He had been shot in the head and died before he could be taken to a hospital.


Phillip Herrell, a 31-year-old African-American man, was arrested on June 20 for the murder of Melvin Jordan, a 32-year-old African-American man. Jordan was shot numerous times in the 900 block of East Preston Street on June 9, 2007. According to CBS News, Herrell was in located in a Delaware correctional facility.
