When they arrived, they found John Edwards Jr., a 17-year-old African-American male, and Steven Fields, a 19-year-old African-American man, shot in the head behind the school. Both were taken to area hospitals. Edwards died that day at 10:24 p.m. Fields died the next day at 7:40 p.m. Edwards is the third juvenile murdered in the city in eight days.

Sunday, March 10

1:04 a.m. Sherard Houston, a 38-year-old African-American man, was discovered lying on the sidewalk in front of Larayes Bar in the 1000 block of Hoffman Street in East Baltimore, dead. He had been shot in the head several times. This is the second murder in Oliver this year.

Update

The murder of Monae Turnage, a 13-year-old African-American girl, has been closed by arrest. Turnage was at the home of some friends on the evening of March 3. A 12-year-old male and a 13-year-old male were allegedly playing with a rifle that was in the home. The rifle went off, shooting Turnage in the chest. She was then dragged out into the backyard and covered with trash bags. Her family, who started looking for Turnage when she didn’t return home that night, found her body the next day. The 12-year-old and 13-year-old were charged on March 5 with involuntary manslaughter. The records are sealed because they are juveniles. The rifle was allegedly found in the car of off-duty Baltimore Police Officer John A. Ward. He has been suspended from the force. According to WBAL-TV, Ward was in a relationship with a relative of one of the suspects.
