Thursday, Jan. 12

1:06 p.m. James Hunter, a 30-year-old African-American man, was found lying on his back in an alley off the 500 block of Edgewood Street near Gwynns Falls Park. He had been shot in the head and died at a local hospital at 1:40 p.m. Hunter lived around the corner from where he was shot.

Update

Willie Daniels, a 33-year-old African-American man, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Jan. 11. Daniels was at the Ibis Tavern in the 6000 block of Harford Road on Aug. 21, 2011. He followed Alfred Garner, a 35-year-old African-American man, out of the bar and stabbed him numerous times. During the altercation, Garner fell through the glass window of a nearby business. The bar’s bouncer then pulled out a handgun, which he was legally permitted to carry, and Daniels ran away. Garner had been stabbed 52 times and died at an area hospital.
