Murders this Year: 157

The men shot and killed in the 3900 block of Dolfield Avenue on Sept. 25 have been identified. They were Gregory Toles, a 30-year-old African-American man, and Tyrone McQueen, a 28-year-old African-American man.

There was a fatal police-involved shooting this week. On Oct. 2, police received a call from the 3600 block of St. Victor Street in Brooklyn. The caller said that another person living in the home had a gun. Police entered the house and confronted the man, who was allegedly holding a handgun. Police told him to put the gun down. He did not. When the man allegedly turned toward police, an officer fired one shot, hitting the man in the upper body. The man was taken to an area hospital where he later died. Police are waiting until his family has been notified of his death to release his name. This fatality is not included in the Baltimore Police Department’s homicide tally.

Tuesday, Sept. 27

2:47 a.m. Police found Keith Parker, a 38-year-old African-American man, in a minivan in the 400 block of Primrose Avenue in Northwest Baltimore. He had trauma to his head and was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:07 p.m. An autopsy revealed that he had been shot in the head.

Wednesday, Sept. 28

12:55 a.m. Dwight Montgomery, a 45-year-old African-American man, was shot in the head in the 2200 block of Garrison Boulevard in Mount Holly. He died at a local hospital at 1:55 a.m.

4:06 p.m. That afternoon, Antonio Blackwell, a 26-year-old African-American man, was standing in the doorway of a carryout in the 1400 block of East Fayette Avenue a few blocks from Johns Hopkins Hospital. A thin African-American man wearing a black hoodie and black pants pulled out a gun and shot at Blackwell several times. The gunman then fled east on Fayette Avenue.

7:50 p.m. That night, police got a call that shots had been fired in the 1900 block of East 31st Street near Lake Montebello. When they got there, they found Aldrick Hamilton, a 32-year-old African-American man, shot numerous times. He died at an area hospital at 9:35 p.m. Hamilton is the 32nd person murdered this year in the Northeastern police district, the most murderous in the city.


On Sept. 28, Michael Hunter, a 20-year-old African-American man, was found guilty of murdering Charles Bowman, a 72-year-old African-American man. Bowman was shot to death during the robbery of Yau Bros. Chinese carryout restaurant at Greenmount Avenue and 29th Street on April 8, 2010. Bowman, a security guard, stopped at the carryout to get food on his way home from work. He was shot and killed during a robbery that netted $13. Hunter’s co-defendant, Troy Taylor, a 20-year-old African-American man, was convicted in April and sentenced to 35 years in prison.
