Monday, Aug. 22
11:25 a.m. Jerome Golphin, a 25-year-old African-American man, was found lying in the front yard of his home in the 200 block of Mount Holly Street west of Hilton Parkway. He had been shot in the back of the head and was dead. The rental car he had been driving was discovered in the 700 block of George Street near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Franklin Street. The car was damaged by gunshots. Police believe that Golphin was shot in the car but they did not know why he and the car were found so far away from each other.
Tuesday, Aug. 23
10:03 p.m. Big Bahadur Gurung, a 20-year-old Asian man, and a 17-year-old Asian male were walking home in the 5200 block of Bowleys Lane when someone shot at them. The 17-year-old was shot in the back and side but managed to make it home to his apartment in the Parkside Gardens complex. Gurung was shot once in the chest and collapsed. The 17-year-old is in critical condition at an area hospital. Gurung died at an area hospital at 10:32 p.m. According to The Baltimore Sun, Gurung was a Bhutanese refugee who immigrated to Baltimore just two months ago to escape persecution in Bhutan.
10:53 p.m. Less than an hour after Gurung and his companion were shot, there was another double shooting with a fatality. Lee Jones, a 24-year-old African-American man, was shot multiple times in the 3700 block of West Forest Park Avenue. Jones died at an area hospital at 11:26 p.m. A 25-year-old African-American man was also shot in the right leg during the incident. He survived.
Thursday, Aug. 25
12:33 a.m. Kennard Hailey, a 26-year-old African-American man, was shot repeatedly in the 1200 block of Valley Street near Greenmount Cemetery. He died at an area hospital a half-hour later.
Saturday, Aug. 27
11:38 a.m. Dramiara Johnson, a 4-year-old African-American girl, died at an area hospital. Johnson’s mother brought the child to the hospital on Aug. 23. Johnson was unconscious and suffering from massive head trauma. Her injuries were suspicious, so doctors called the police department’s child-abuse unit. Johnson was taken off life support four days later and her death has been ruled a homicide. Johnson is the youngest person to be murdered this year.
Sunday, Aug. 28
8:40 p.m. An unidentified man was shot numerous times in the face and torso in the 2800 block of Round Road in Cherry Hill. He died at a local hospital at 9:25 p.m.
Willie Daniels Jr., a 32-year-old African-American man, was arrested on Aug. 23 for the Aug. 21 murder of Alfred Garner, a 35-year-old African-American man. Daniels allegedly followed Garner out of a bar in the 6000 block of Harford Road and stabbed him several times.
