The man shot to death in a car in the 3600 block of Chesterfield Avenue on July 27 has been identified. He was Anthony Johnson, a 47-year-old African-American who lived in the block where he was killed.

After 10 days without a homicide, two people were killed on Sunday. There have been five fewer homicides as of Aug. 15, 2011, than the same date last year.

Sunday, Aug. 14

3:12 a.m. Several people called the police saying they heard gunshots in the 2900 block of South Edgecombe Circle. Derrell Burrow, a 23-year-old African-American man, was found lying facedown in the grass in the block. He had been shot several times and was dead.

9:30 p.m. Demetrius Sowers, a 33-year-old African-American man, was standing in a parking lot in the 3400 block of Clifton Avenue when someone shot him. He was taken to an area hospital but died an hour later.

Update

Julian Grey, a 28-year-old African-American man also known as Tavon Grey, was sentenced to 60 years in prison on Aug. 11. Grey got into an argument with Eric Brown, a 20-year-old African-American man, on Aug. 19, 2008, in 1000 block of Edmondson Avenue. The two men were arguing about drug territory. Grey left but returned and shot Brown once in the back of the head.
