Murders this Year: 83

Two males who were fatally stabbed in the chest last week have been identified. Jalil Malik Al-Salim, a 40-year-old African-American man, was stabbed in the 1600 block of North Fulton Street on May 21. Dashaen Brown, a 17-year-old African-American male, was stabbed in the 3100 block of Edmondson Avenue the next day.

Wednesday, May 25

2:56 a.m. Donte Larkins, a 33-year-old African-American man, was shot in the head in the 1500 block of North Monroe Street. He died before he could be taken to the hospital. This is the second murder in Sandtown-Winchester in five days.

Thursday, May 26

12:16 a.m. Anthony Sherman, a 27-year-old African-American man, was discovered lying on the sidewalk in the 1600 block of Ward Court in East Baltimore. He had been shot in the head and was declared brain dead at an area hospital at 8:22 p.m.

10:50 a.m. Kevin Jones, a 57-year-old African-American man, and Corey Crosby, a 41-year-old African-American man, got into an argument in the 1200 block of West Ostend Street. During the argument Crosby allegedly stabbed Jones in the chest. Jones died in an area hospital at 5:08 p.m. Crosby was arrested the next day. This is the third murder in Pigtown this year; the second in this block.

9:53 p.m. Three African-American men and a 12-year-old African-American child were sitting on a porch in the 1700 block of Cliftview Avenue near Clifton Park. At least one person shot at the four of them. All were hit. The men are expected to survive. The child, Sean Johnson, was shot in the chest and died at a city hospital. Johnson is the fifth person under 18 murdered in 2011.

Saturday, May 28

11:09 a.m. A man in a car stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Hillsdale Road and Liberty Heights Avenue. Another car pulled up and a person exited that vehicle. That person had a gun and shot into the man’s car. The man was hit in the upper torso. The person with the gun got back into his car and drove away. The man who was shot tried to drive away too but lost control. He hit a pole and then a pedestrian and then a light pole. The pedestrian, a 45-year-old man, was struck in the leg but is expected to survive. The man who was shot died at an area hospital an hour later.

Sunday, May 29

6:19 p.m. A woman was jogging on the Gwynns Falls Trail when she spotted a dead body lying in a wooded area and called police. The body belonged to a woman, but police have not been able to identify her. She suffered head and face trauma. She is the fifth biological female murdered this year.
