Tuesday, Feb. 15

4:45 p.m. Steven Williams, a 53-year-old African-American man, was stabbed multiple times in the 1100 block of West Cross Street in Pigtown. He died at an area hospital at 10:01 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 16

10:57 p.m. Martez Hall, a 22-year-old African-American man, was inside his home in the 1600 block of East 31st Street. Someone came up to the house and shot Hall through a window, hitting him several times. Hall died at an area hospital at 11:32 p.m. This is the third murder in the Coldstream Homestead Montebello neighborhood this year.

Thursday, Feb. 17

12:35 p.m. Joshua Mathews, a 45-year-old African-American man, got into an argument at a bus stop in the 1900 block of Greenmount Avenue just a few blocks from the Baltimore City Public School System headquarters on East North Avenue. The man he was arguing with stabbed Mathews in the neck. Mathews managed to run into a nearby Rite Aide before collapsing. He died at an area hospital half an hour later. This is the second murder at a bus stop this month. While canvassing the area, police arrested Lafayette Taylor, a 56-year-old African-American man, and charged him with Mathews’ murder. Four 2011 homicides have been closed by arrest.

Saturday, Feb. 19

12:30 p.m. A man was looking for his dog in the 3300 block of Virginia Avenue when he thought he heard barking coming from a house. The back door was open, so the man entered to look for the dog. He went into the basement and saw a body. The man left and called 911. The body of an African-American man was found in the basement with no obvious signs of trauma. An autopsy revealed that the man had numerous injuries and had been asphyxiated, however, so the case was ruled a homicide. The man, who has not yet been identified, is the second person found fatally wounded in Central Park Heights in eight days. *

Sunday, Feb. 20

3:56 p.m. Mark Saunders, a 23-year-old African-American man, and a 20-year-old African-American man, were in a car in the 1600 block of Cliftview Avenue in Darley Park. Someone came up and shot the men repeatedly. The 20-year-old survived. Saunders, who was driving the car, died at an area hospital at 4:20 p.m.

* UPDATE

The unidentified person found dead in 3300 block of Virginia Avenue on Feb. 19 has been identified as Anthony Trent, a 25-year-old African-American male. A Feb. 22 Baltimore Sun article identified Trent as a transgendered woman. According to the article, Trent went by the name Tyra and had received services from Trans-United. The Baltimore Police Department could not confirm that Trent was transgendered, stating that the victim is listed as male in police and court records but was found in women's clothing.
