Film Documents History Of NS Savannah

Thomas Michael Conner tells the story of the nuclear-powered ship docked in Baltimore

Michigan filmmaker Thomas Michael Conner has released a new documentary, Once Upon a Nuclear Ship, about the NS Savannah, the nuclear-powered ship mothballed at Baltimore’s Canton Marine Terminal (“Mothballed in Mobtown,” Mobtown Beat, April 13, 2011). Conner sailed on the ship, which was deactivated in 1970 and is now designated a National Historic Landmark, as radiation-protection staffer from its first nuclear reaction until 1964. For the 65-minute film, he tracked down others involved with its active-duty days, including those who still hope for a nuclear-powered fleet. DVD copies of the film are for sale at http://nssavannahdocumentary.com/.
