1 Marriage Equality

Same-sex couples flooded courthouses statewide on Dec. 6, the first day they could legally apply for marriage licenses in Maryland. The next day, the Supreme Court announced that it would hear two cases challenging prohibitions against same-sex marriage in other states, which could make it impossible to ban it anywhere in the country. Let’s do!

2 Hopkins

The Johns Hopkins University pledged $10 million over the next five years to help develop 10 neighborhoods around the North Baltimore campus. It’ll help struggling parts of Barclay and Greenmount West, but the funds earmarked for relatively tony Charles Village and Oakenshawe could be better spent—maybe by directing them to the neighborhoods around Johns Hopkins Hospital.

3 Sheila Dixon

After a considerable delay and the prospect of a court hearing, the gift-card-stealing ex-mayor finally paid $45,000 to charity, as required by her settlement agreement. This clears her of all legal obligations, possibly clearing the way for her to return to office. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

4 Ravens

Reeling from two tough losses and still trying to plug up a leaky, injury-plagued defense, the Ravens are hardly headed toward the postseason on a roll, but firing long-criticized offensive coordinator Cam Cameron may provide just the shake-up the team needs—and proof that Biscotti, Harbaugh, and company are still in it to win it all.

5 Local Weathermen

WBAL’s Tony Pann and WMAR’s Mike Masco took their global-warming-denying views to Facebook, with Pann—CP’s “Best Weatherman” 2012 (oh, the shame)—arguing that all those physics Ph.Ds at NOAA and NASA who say GW is real are on the take—”follow the money,” he says—while Masco describes it as “the biggest scam in modern time” and insists, “I don’t drink the liberal coolaid [sic].” Get these ignorant clowns off the air, please!
