White Life

WEDNESDAY: Baltimore noise-rock outfit the New Flesh comes out of hiding at the Golden West with Roomrunner, the new band from Double Dagger’s Denny Bowen, and noise-jazz-whatchamacallit Microkingdom. Winks bring their dream-pop sex jams to the Golden West Cafe with Soft Cat.

THURSDAY: The Kowli Nights dance party brings techno and various non-sucky things that mix well with techno to the Ottobar’s upstairs bar. Ace Baltimore/Annapolis noise-rock band Bad Biology scrapes its vocal chords out all over the Sidebar with Shat Shorts, Gloom Beam, and Bubonic Bear. Clarinetist Yunhong Chi and pianist Ran Duan do a free show at An die Musik. Charles Feelgood, DJ Who, and Uncle Jesse spin at Bassdrop’s holiday party at Mosaic Lounge.

FRIDAY: James Nasty and Antonio Harper’s Physical Education party doesn’t miss a beat upstairs at the Ottobar. Right on time, the mini-festival that is the Baltimore Bass Connection’s holiday party takes over Sonar with Spank Rock, WIN WIN, White Life, Shuttle, Carter Tanton, Ron Darko, Contra, and more. Baltimore hair-metal band extraordinaire Kix does its yearly Kix-Mas thing at Rams Head Live with King Belvedere and the Factory. Former Bridge frontman Cris Jacobs plays with his new band (just the Cris Jacobs Band) at the 8X10 with Dropping Sully. The Thorn Apples make “junkgrass” music at the Windup Space with Sea Couch and the Highland Hill Boys. The Gunson Roses holiday spectacular takes over Joe Squared Station North with much jazz/rock/funk/kitchen-sink cheer. Lutherville alternaband Cinder Road plays Towson’s Recher Theatre.

SATURDAY: What?

SUNDAY: Oh, hello Christmas. Fuck you, Christmas.

MONDAY: Calvert County rapper-done-good Wax, who went from YouTube blowup to Def Jam this year, apparently, does two nights at the 8X10. DJ James Nasty spins at Joe Squared Power Plant.

TUESDAY: Emo/screamo soon-to-go-on-hiatus big name Thursday plays D.C.’s 9:30 Club with meWithoutyou, Screaming Females, and more. Southern Maryland skate-punk band Soulful Aggression plays the Sidebar with Disastrous Consequences (who’re celebrating an EP release), Hellcat Maggie, and Angry Youth. The Out of Your Head collective brings in another round of improvisers for deep-space travels at the Windup Space. Landis Expandis and DJ Napspace’s Dig weekly gets ‘em on the floor at Joe Squared Station North. Scottie B mans the decks at Joe Squared Power Plant.

WEDNESDAY: Dark Star Orchestra does the Grateful Dead at Rams Head Live; Project/Object does Frank Zappa at Baltimore Soundstage. New Jersey grind band Budd Dwyer makes hell at the Sidebar with Downfall of Gaia, Vestiges, and more. Pianist Marc Irwin pairs with theater vocalist Daniel Schwait at An die Musik. Singer/songwriter/MC/beatboxer Queen Earth performs at the Bohemian Coffee House.

IN THE WINGS: A still-reunited Dru Hill comes to Rams Head Live Jan. 21, 2012, with Sisqo and Black Angel Down (for more information visit ramsheadlive.com or call [410] 244-1131). Dub Nation celebrates three years of being Dub Nation at Baltimore Soundstage Jan. 28, 2012, with Vaski and more (for more information visit baltimoresoundstage.com). So far it’s a very quiet January.
