Baltimore rapper Smash, aka T-Mac, best known for the single “A Bit Too Much for Me,” was found dead in his home on Feb. 22. Terrel Dishon Taylor was only 31 years old and died of congestive heart failure after years of battling a heart condition. He’s survived by his mother, Sharon Taylor, and two young sons and a daughter.

Taylor began his career in his hometown after returning from a couple years in New York, and he quickly found success. “A Bit Too Much for Me,” featuring Yung C, showcased Taylor’s distinctive gravelly voice and lit up request lines on 92Q, plus stations in Washington, D.C. and North Carolina. Many mixtapes followed, with more popular singles like “Gucci Bag Blues” and “My Dummy.” His last release, Block Work: King Jaffe, was the most downloaded mixtape of 2012 on AllBmoreHipHop.com.

As news of his death spread on Friday evening, countless peers in the Baltimore hip-hop scene mourned Taylor’s passing on Twitter and Facebook, as did Atlanta rappers he’d collaborated with, like Alley Boy and Shawty Lo. A public memorial will be held this Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 6 P.M., at City of Gods boutique, 1118 Hollins St.
