Rock Since the Bee Gees

On Feb. 8 Arbouretum celebrates the release of their excellent new LP, Coming Out of the Fog, out now on Thrill Jockey records, at the Golden West. Supporting are ragged Americana outfit the Sterling Sisters and Drums of Death, whose name pretty much sums it up.

In sadder news, pan-metal all-stars Witch Hat announced on their Facebook page that their practice space had been pilfered of two guitars—a black Rickenbacker and a black Peavy bass, because those boys like it black. If you have any information on the whereabouts of these two instruments, please send it their way.

Before there was Future Islands, there existed a band called Art Lord and the Self-Portraits. The band, featuring the familiar faces of Samuel T. Herring, William Cashion, and Gerrit Welmers along with Adam Beeby, will play a Valentine’s Day reunion show, 10 years after their first show, in Raleigh, N.C. If the five-hour drive is too daunting, consider picking up Friends Records’ double-LP retrospective, The Definitive Collection (pictured), due out in February.

Dan Deacon capped off a busy year by releasing a mashup album in December titled Wish Book Volume 1. The mix features music from a wide range of artists, from Beach House to Skrillex, all contorted to fit Deacon’s warped vision. Deacon also announced that he will be touring North America with Animal Collective in March. Sadly, there is no Baltimore date.

And finally, from the department of onomatology, Big in Japan featuring Katrina Ford has been rechristened Mt. Royal. Check them out at the Metro Gallery on Feb. 2 with Sri Aurobindo and Wing Dam.
