Sizzlin’ Summer

Sizzlin’ Summer: Summer in Baltimore is a sensory explosion, from the scent of Old Bay-smothered steamed crabs and the taste of marshmallow-topped chocolate snoballs to the smell of Ocean City salt water mixed with sunscreen and the vision of fireflies. 5/15/2013

Glengarry Glen Ross

GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS Al Pacino, Alec Baldwin, and a boatload of others curse up a fuckin’ blue streak in this adaptation of David Mamet’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play. Part of University of Baltimore’s RetroCineFest, at UB’s Wright Theater Nov. 16 at 2 P.M.

A LATE QUARTET It’s a power struggle for musical chairs in this drama about a New York-based string quartet. Christopher Walken plays a cellist whose Parkinson’s diagnosis sends fissures through the foursome. Capote co-stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and Catherine Keener reunite as a couple on the verge of dissolving professionally and emotionally. Adultery abounds (insert no-strings-attached joke here), as does Beethoven’s “Quartet No. 14, Opus 131.” Opens Nov. 16.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN PT. 2 If you’re not already party to the good-looking-vampires craze, count yourself lucky. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson see the series through to its conclusion. Opens Nov. 16.

HORSE FEATHERS Groucho, Chico, Harpo, and Zeppo clown around on the college football field in this 1932 classic. At the Charles Theatre Nov. 17, 19, and 21.

ORPHEE Dip in and out of the underworld in Jean Cocteau’s second and best entry in his Orphic Trilogy. Jean Marais—one of Cocteau’s more significant lovers—plays Orpheus, who becomes romantically entangled with Death while pursuing his slain wife’s soul. Part of UB’s RetroCineFest, at UB’s Wright Theatre Nov. 18 at 4 P.M.

Raising Arizona

Films on the Pier. Broadway Pier, (410) 563-9011, fellspointmainstreet.org or facebook.com/FilmsOnThePier. There are few better places to watch a movie than the Broadway Pier, what with the waterfront views, historic homes, and endless bars and restaurants within stumbling distance. This series sticks to more current fare, as evidenced by last summer’s screenings of Drive, Bridesmaids, and The Hunger Games. Check back on the event’s Facebook page for a full schedule.

Flicks From The Hill. Thursdays 5-11 p.m. July 11-Aug. 22, American Visionary Art Museum, 800 Key Highway, (410) 244-1900, avam.org, free. These outdoor film screenings, brought to you by the folks at American Visionary Art Museum, feature classics on the big screen. Also, enjoy free admission to the museum between 5-9 p.m. on film nights.

July 11: West Side Story
July 18: Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure
July 25: Rear Window
Aug. 1: Raising Arizona
Aug. 8: Cry-Baby
Aug. 15: Finding Forrester
Aug. 22: The NeverEnding Story

Open Air Film Fest. Fridays 7 p.m.-11 p.m. July 5-Aug. 30, Little Italy Open Air Theater, corner of High and Stiles streets. Enjoy Italian (and Italian-American) films projected outside every Friday in July and August. Enjoy live music before the movie starts and scarf down free popcorn. Movies start at 9 p.m. Dates and films for 2013 haven’t been announced as of yet; check littleitalymd.com for scheduling.
