City Paper’s fourth annual Shoot. Score. Baltimore. Short Film Contest. If you live in Maryland and you’ve made a short (7 minutes or less) film or video, whether it’s live-action or animation, documentary or sci-fi, we want to see it.
The initial batch of films will be screened by City Paper staff and a final selection of finalists will be screened for local film gurus, who will help determine the awards. The winners, and maybe more, will be shown at the annual SSB screening bash at the Creative Alliance at the Patterson May 30. A grand prize winner will be announced at the screening and awarded a cash bounty of $500; prizes will be awarded in other categories as well, including the coveted Audience Favorite Award (which comes with $250 along with the adulation).

- Films must be no longer than seven minutes in total length.
- Director or producer must be a Maryland resident.
- Submissions will be accepted on DVD only (finalists may be asked to submit a file in uploadable form also).
- All entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form.
- Members of the City Paper extended family (including freelance contributors) are ineligible to enter.
- Films accepted into the Maryland Film Festival, this year or in years past, are ineligible.
- Entries may be screened at least once for the public at the contest finale and/or hosted on citypaper.com for one year; otherwise, all rights remain with the filmmaker(s).
- Films containing content that could constitute an illegal act—think harming animals rather than violating a song copyright—are ineligible. (We don’t want to have to agonize over whether or not to notify the police over an entry to a short-film contest.)
There is a non-refundable $10 entry fee for each submission, due with submission, to help defray contest expenses.
All submissions must be received by 5 p.m., Friday, May 18.
