Your Highness

Directed by David Gordon Green

This stoner comedy—about two medieval princes on a quest to rescue a beautiful princess—would totally suck if Danny McBride and James Franco weren’t so amiable as the stoner pair and Zooey Deschanel didn’t make such a fetching princess. As it is, it just kinda sucks. After Fabious’ (Franco) virginal bride-to-be (Deschanel) is snatched by an evil wizard, he and his slacker brother Thadeous (McBride) battle traitorous knights, a five-headed beast, and topless female warriors to get her back. Crass, bloody, obvious, and occasionally funny, Your Highness plays more like a series of in-jokes than an actual story. (Indeed, the stars seem to be improvising most of their lines, and are having a way better time than you will.) Natalie Portman, as a kick-ass woman on a quest of her own, brightens things up a bit, but she’s a mere supporting player to all the dick and weed jokes.
