This swank spot, nestled at the corner of Howard and Madison, across from Maryland General (where Coconuts used to be), is not an obvious choice when you’re looking for cheap eats. But their happy hour (5-7 P.M.) deals offer up distinctly non-happy-hour fare at basement prices. From the big list of $5 tapas, we chose the Greek orzo, the mac and cheese with feta, and the falafel. All three were far bigger helpings than one would suspect. The orzo was fluffy and flavorful, the mac and cheese just browned enough on top to have the right crispiness to complement the soft feta, and the balls of falafel were downright huge. We also tried an $8 “tappetizer” of roasted salmon with cucumbers and it was basically a meal. They say they’ll be opening up a deli-style joint next-door in the spring, but we can’t drink at lunch, and so until then, we’ll be swinging by to stuff ourselves at happy hour while enjoying our libations.
