Doughnuts and coffee, danishes and cakes, lattes and frappes populate the still-sparse cases in this beautifully renovated, eerily unattached rowhouse near the corner of Poppleton and Baltimore streets. The downstairs, with a single table, could pass for a cop stop, while upstairs is more like a nightclub, with couches and low tables. The iced chai latte ($3.75 for 16 ounces) is delicious. Owner Darrick Christian also makes a nice turkey sausage and egg sandwich ($2.50), and rustles up a pretty serviceable $2.50 burger too—though lettuce and tomato were still coming soon when we visited last week. By September, he promises a fuller deli style menu, and Christian’s demeanor inspires confidence. He’s unfailingly pleasant, open, and generous, throwing in delicious “extras” that may be costing him some dessert business.
