Sweet Sin’s sugary veneer hides a secret. As Remington already knows quite well, cupcakes are only the tip of the delicious iceberg: From a full kitchen, SS is serving up three meals a day of food best described as ethnic eclectic with Caribbean roots. Can’t think of many places you can get a plateful of tacos, a yogurt-y plantain appetizer, marinated portabella mushrooms in a not-exactly-pesto basil sauce, and garlic sautéed kale all in one order, and have it all be yummy (and gluten-free). Those veggie tacos hide a delicious mush of chickpea, yellow rice, black beans, and avocados ($7.50, and enough for a filling meal). The kale, one of nearly a dozen offered sides, is tender but not overcooked; the mushroom, stacked with fresh mozzarella and tomato slices, offers a surprisingly balanced flavor jive between its marinade/sauce and its meaty self. Looks like Sweet Sin’s done some remodeling recently, offering more of a familiar dining space than the previous situation of kinda being all up in their kitchen. And, finally, if the savory grub at SS is a hint at what’s to come at the full-on restaurant next door, Meet 27, we should all be very excited.
