Wondering where to take a herd of hungry boys one weekday evening, we happened upon Peace A Pizza, tucked away in a groovy little corner of Catonsville. A riot of tie-dyed color met our cold and bleary eyes. The busy counter person informed us of a special that evening: a slice and a salad for $6.99, adding that you could substitute a soup for the salad. Sold! We tried the roasted-pepper and potato-cheddar soups; the former was gloriously peppery and surprisingly thick. For those of us with New Year’s resolutions, the salads weren’t too shabby either. What was supposed to be a “small” Mediterranean salad was bountiful. Tomatoes, cucumbers, Kalamatas, red onions, feta, and greens nearly flowed over the container they were in. The star of the show, hands down, was the pizza. The boys got fancy pizzas, but try the cheese pizza. The ruby-red tomato sauce and delicious hand-tossed crust—thin, but not too thin—was very good. We also tried the “green goat,” a pesto pizza with goat cheese and arugula (delicious), and the bacon cheeseburger (solid), but the vegetarian primavera, a mind-boggling blend of broccoli, mushrooms, tomatoes, pico de gallo, artichokes, sliced eggplant, and roasted peppers with mozzarella and cheddar cheeses was texturally, a bit confusing. All said, though, the portions were generous, the prices were right, and the place was bright and friendly. Next time the boys are hungry, we’ll go back.
