Asian/deep-fried American food carryout joints almost outnumber bars in Baltimore, but two things about Jimmy’s, located on West Franklin right next to the hopping weekend nightspot Place Lounge, stand out. 1) It’s an adorable storefront, so that you stand in a lovely seafoam-green lobby when ordering through the bulletproof glass. 2) It’s open 11-3 a.m. Monday-Saturday, making it a good post-last call place to refuel on the west side. The menu offers the usual fried chicken, subs, and fried rice fare, but a few curiosities—cheese steak egg rolls ($1.75 each)—catch the eye. So while we’re saving the HK Style Macaroni (with Chinese vegetables and Spam; $4.95, lunch only) and ketchup yok mein (with pork, egg, and onions; $3.95 small, $4.50 large) for follow-up visits, the udon with chicken, egg, and Chinese vegetables ($7.95) delivers a savory bowl of linguini-thick wheat-flour noodles, scrambled eggs, greens, and sliced chicken breast in a clear but tasty broth. And from 11:30 a.m-2 p.m, a lunch-sized portion only sets you back $4.95.
