Laura Dattaro

Greenhouse Cafe, we were so excited to try you. One of the newest food trucks in town, you sound like a vegetarian’s dream: natural, kosher, Mediterranean, and with meat options (and non-Mediterranean fare like cheeseburgers) too so us herbivores don’t get stuck standing alone while our friends chow down from the hot dog stand. But despite your kindness and pretty green truck, we would not soon make a return trip. The falafel in a falafel sandwich ($6) was tasty and peppery, with a fair amount of tahini; the beef in a keffa sandwich ($7) OK, though lacking in spice, but all was overwhelmed by the odd choice of doughy French bread. (The sandwiches are huge, so at least there’s that.)  A side order of hummus ($4), dressed with oil and some unknown spice, is your standard fare, but the “homemade toasted pita chips” were the biggest flaw of the meal: overcooked to the point of tasting stale and almost inedible. We were promised improvements like an expanded menu, a web site, and a cash register as early as next week, so perhaps another visit will fare better. (Note: cash only.)
