Got the celiac blues? No gluten (wheat) for you and all the wonderfully comforting and satisfying baked, bready items that make up the anti-South Beach Diet diet are off limits. We seriously feel for you. But turn that celiac sad upside down because we found Cheezy’s gluten-free pizza. We aren’t gonna lie and pretend it’s cheap or better than their ample wheat-flour crust options, because it isn’t, but you can eat it. Here are some tips: Just really go for it and get “The Works” ($23.95 for a 12-inch). The gluten-free crust (made with rice, bean, and tapioca flours) is topped with an herby red sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, sliced sausage, fresh mushrooms, red onion, and green pepper. The thin crust is cracker-like, with a soft interior, very mild and light, and holds up well under drier toppings, making a salty, crunchy, yes, strange, but still, pizza pie. The Margherita ($19.97 for a 12-inch) features fresh tomatoes and slices of fresh mozz along with red sauce, drizzled balsamic, and basil chiffonade. Yummy, but too juicy for that delicate crust and best to avoid. If you need a veggie option, there are many—just stay clear of watery tomatoes or extra sauces and you should be happy. Cheezy’s also offers three gluten-free pasta dishes and bread sticks savory and sweet, but stay tuned: This is just the beginning of what the folks at Cheezy’s hope to be quite an extended menu when they get gluten-free breadcrumbs in the kitchen—chicken Parm y’all. (Starting Feb. 1, prices will be lowered too.)
