Best Weatherman
WBAL-TV’s Tony Pann
Published: September 19, 2012
The major motion picture Groundhog Day teaches us that the life of a local weatherman can be one of quiet desperation in front of a green screen. Not so for Tony Pann. Every morning, through bleary eyes, we receive the vital meteorological information for the day from Mr. Pann, who never flags in his enthusiasm for reporting to us, breaking it all down into easy-to-understand chunks while obviously suppressing his enthusiasm for “interesting” weather, which, quite frankly, we do not even appreciate intellectually, because the truth is, the words we live in wait for each morning from our weather-pal Tony are “we’re off to a quiet start,” it’s going to be a “quiet day,” or anything else with the word “quiet” in it. And as many times as he’s told us that, he’s never sounded bored once.
