Best Journalistic Hustle
Luke Broadwater
Published: September 19, 2012
Broadwater was a key reporter running hard at the Grand Prix follies when no one was looking. From the bollixed finances of Baltimore Racing Development just weeks after last year’s inaugural race to the reluctance of Race On LLC to fund an economic development study after this year’s race (and its about-face when The Sun, and Broadwater, came after them), Broadwater has shown constant hustle. Lexis shows more than 270 bylines in just the past year—more than 70 on the front page. He’s got his hand in stories about cops, the fire department, judges, development, towing (always good for intrigue), the city council, Lt. Governor Brown’s Vegas vacation, water bills (he was paying attention to “Water Bill Lady” Linda Stewart when most ignored her)—even a nice scrap metal story from Curtis Bay.
