Sizzlin’ Summer: Summer in Baltimore is a sensory explosion, from the scent of Old Bay-smothered steamed crabs and the taste of marshmallow-topped chocolate snoballs to the smell of Ocean City salt water mixed with sunscreen and the vision of fireflies. 5/15/2013

Best Industry Comeback

Television and Film

Chances are you’ve seen those massive trucks taking up entire blocks . . . perhaps taking up a parking space you were planning on occupying. In the past year, House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey, Game Change, starring Ed Harris, and the HBO series Veep, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, have all been shot here—it’s like the good old days of The Wire and Homicide, but without all the fake murders and bad PR. Don’t sweat the parking; it’s for the good of the city, what with those crews creating jobs for locals and sowing the seeds for a rather lucrative industry here in Baltimore. Plus, you might be able to make it big through one of those open casting calls (be sure to bring a headshot, if you got one). The Baltimore Film Office web site (baltimorefilm.com) posts updates on local TV/film happenings, so keep an eye out if you’d like to get involved.
