Urbanite
Published: September 19, 2012
Cue up “Taps” and think of this as a 21-gun salute to mourn a fallen comrade in the print-journalism wars. Urbanite brought a slick design and an earnest voice to the city, and like us, they did it for free. All you had to do was walk out to the little red boxes and you could get some of the city’s best coverage of environmental and social issues, with eats, drinks, and arts, to boot. They were truly passionate about this city, and while they weren’t as much fun as we are, they weren’t as cynical either. But that shit is hard to sustain, and just last week Urbanite called it quits. As a result, Baltimore has lost an important voice. We salute you.
