Best Radio Station for Talk

WYPR-FM (88.1)

When we’re looking for talk radio, we still tune our dials to 88.1. You simply can’t beat WYPR for non-sports local coverage. The station runs the gamut from The Signal’s local arts-and-oddities coverage to the regular news updates about what’s going on in the state and the city to Maryland Morning’s mix of both. Even the once-unlistenable Midday With Dan Rodricks has grown on us thanks to Rodricks’ dogged coverage of local politics, even during a campaign season that left all but the most politically minded citizens cold. And, of course, we also love having a go-to for all our favorite NPR programming—BBC World Service, Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Marketplace, Car Talk, and This American Life. The station’s new shortened fundraising drives mean we get more uninterrupted programming. Now, if WYPR could just boost its signal strength so that it’s clearer and more widely available than your average college station, we’d rarely move the dial. (AD)
