The Baltimore Chop

OK, so we’re not discovering something here. The Baltimore Chop has received plenty of recognition elsewhere, and for good reason. So we’re piling on the love, pouring the Old Bay straight out of the can onto the already steamed and seasoned crab, so to speak. First off, we like the name. It’s an old baseball term, referring to when a batter smacks a pitched ball hard on the ground near home plate, causing it to bounce high enough in the air to give him time to reach first base before the ball gets fielded. It’s a nice metaphor for what this blogger does, which is to hit subjects so hard into the ground that, yes, they bounce quite high. Most of the time, anyhow. Hard to argue with someone who bloviates engagingly about music, drinking, the Orioles, style, politics, etiquette, shopping, film, theater, and any and all things Baltimore in a fast, loose, honest, punk-rock-all-growed-up fashion. What’s more, after hitting all those balls hard into the ground for most of the year, this blogger takes a few months off to head into some Middle East desert to make some money somehow. That’s one long, high, hot, dry bounce, for sure. Mysterious, too, which is nice. Here’s to the prospect that the Chop returns in one piece, ready to hit some more bouncing balls.
