Baltimore Living

Best Library Branch

Central Library

Enoch Pratt Free Library, 400 Cathedral St., (410) 396-5430,

Even if you’ve been to the Pratt’s central library hundreds of times (and we have), it never ceases to impress. At how many places can you grab a coffee, engage in a giant game of chess, find the latest Laura Lippman novel, browse an extensive jazz collection for that one Bill Evans disc you don’t own, hunt down your favorite 16mm film from the old Baltimore Film Festival, get sidetracked by photos of the gorgeous Damita Jo and other African-American Baltimoreans of the Pennsylvania Avenue heyday as you walk down the hall and up the stairs to the Maryland Room to track down biographies of retired Colts including Bert Jones and Art Donovan’s classic Fatso? Only at the Pratt.
