Best Heat With No Light: Hontroversy

Best Heat With No Light

At the dawn of the scandal, when it was learned that the controversial restaurateur and festival organizer Denise Whiting had trademarked the word “hon” in all its fonts, the “hontroversy,” as it became known, promised to become a prism through which age-old Baltimore addictions such as cultural appropriation, neighborhood politics, envy, greed, and flamingos could be parsed by legal scholars and public intellectuals for eons.  Alas, it was not to be. Instead it degenerated into an epic flame war, City Paper’s online discussion boards reaching deep into infrared territory with such sage posts as, “The woman is absolute scum” (from thoughtful poster “Denise is a total hUNT”), “Hon art? LOLOLOL! Hon ART? LOLOLOLOL!” (“Mr. J”), and “You fail like a nasty fart in the breeze...” (from “Photoboho”). Stay classy, Baltimore!
