Best Vet/Animal Hospital: VILLAGE VET

Best Vet/Animal Hospital

The Village Vet

1620 Sulgrave Ave., (410) 367-8111, baltimorevet.net

When we first brought our cat to his appointment at the Village Vet, the technician was so knowledgeable that we assumed he was the vet and started badgering him with silly questions like why our cat seemed to become possessed by the devil once or twice per day. Fortunately, he simply smiled and gave us the best explanation he could before informing us the doctor would be with us shortly. Our bad. But at this cozy Mount Washington animal hospital, that’s the kind of care you can expect—no gimmicks, no big words, simply nice people who have a genuine interest in your pet’s well-being. The basic exam is affordable, and the office also offers an array of services, including boarding and grooming for cats and dogs, an on-site lab and pharmacy, surgeries, oncology, and behavioral counseling, plus playing an active role in rescue and adoption and providing a breadth of online resources including information on first-aid, health, and dental care. Whew. And the doctors have clearly gone for a few walks around the block. Ours quickly arrived at an odd but ultimately accurate diagnosis for the mysterious blisters and redness plaguing our cat’s mouth. “This guy likes to bite, doesn’t he?” she said. “These are burns—go home and find the electrical wire he chewed through.”
