If you love books, I mean really love books, you surely already know Salamander Used Books. Formerly in Hampden, this book-lovers’ paradise is situated in Mount Vernon. Nestled among all the historic buildings in the lower level, it’s a fitting place for this haven for bibliophiles. The staff is unobtrusive and lets you browse. Which is great because they have quite a selection of used books to peruse. While it is a bit lacking in some of the categories more easily found at other bookstores, mystery and popular fiction especially, the art lover and history buff will find this salamander a massive ass-kicking dinosaur. The rewarding tactile experience of leafing through bound books and the heady fragrance of decomposing paper will keep us coming back again and again.
