Best Tattoo Studio

Have Fun Be Lucky

820 W. 36th St., (410) 235-5930, havefunbeluckytattoo.com

Baltimore isn’t short on great tattoo shops with truly talented artists, so picking number one is always a challenge. This year we happily give top honors to Hampden’s Have Fun Be Lucky. While the shop has many fabulous inkers, it’s co-owner Andrea Vitale-Lathe who has earned it the prize. Vitale-Lathe is a fine artist with a background in painting, and it shows—her designs are painterly and delicate and intricate. A floral tattoo boasts depth and movement, and portraits brim with life and thoughtful detail. Vitale-Lathe is also a pleasure to work with. She is sure of herself as an artist and will tell you if she thinks that a certain spot won’t work or a design would look better flipped the other way around, but she is also warm, easygoing, and genuinely interested in making sure her clients are thrilled with their tattoos. The finished product is top notch, and if you start to get lightheaded or nauseated, Vitale-Lathe will wipe your neck with a cool towel and even bring you a cookie to get your blood sugar back up, proving that you don’t have to be a tough guy to get an amazing tattoo.
