Best Place to Buy New Furniture: Shofers Furniture

Best Place to Buy New Furniture

Shofer’s Furniture

930 S. Charles St., (410) 752-4212, shofers.com

Shofer’s has not been around since 1914 for nothing. It sells new furniture, real furniture, name brands, not eye-chart puzzles you partially assemble with an Allen wrench, and of course the stuff here costs a bit more, you know why? Because when you sit on it in your rumpus room, it doesn’t have bendy wood slats in the bottom that might go kerrr-ack! when you plop down to watch the next installment of Breaking Bad. Get it? Sure, you can go and get a new replacement slat, but the whole reason you bought that couch was to sit on it, in comfort. And “sectional” is not a bad word, as you’ll see when you walk around the leviathan five-level Shofer’s showroom full of every last thing you need to make a house a home and a whole bunch more stuff you didn’t realize you needed until you saw it, such as the 3-foot-high pagoda objets (which seemed to have replaced the stone obelisk as the accent item a la mode), and one-of-a kind throw pillows (to go with that sectional), or maybe a crazy giant hollow metal peace sign with Christmas-tree lights, or an interiorly illuminated stone-veneer coffee table, and of course a huge selection of Persian rugs to tie the room together. Shofer’s feels like a museum, but it’s better, because everything’s new, and you can take the exhibits home.
