Best Farmers Market

Fells Point

7:30-11:30 a.m. Saturdays June-November, fellspointmainstreet.org

Comparison shopping for Baltimore farmers markets has become a complex affair, since they’ve been cropping up all over town in recent years. We’ve been waiting for one to come to Fells Point’s Broadway Square, since it seemingly was designed as a bazaar of sorts—a tree-lined square in the middle of a cobblestoned shopping district—and surely must’ve been used as such in the past. When Fells Point Main Street announced that one would be starting there in June, the marketing effort confirmed our suspicions: “After more than 200 years,” the posters read, “the farmers market is returning to historic Fell’s Point.” Like farmers markets everywhere, it features local fruits, vegetables, meats, and cheeses, along with prepared foods (pickles, cupcakes, pressed paninis, BLTs, doggie treats, and the like) and a few artsy-craftsy options, plus some low-key entertainment (Hula-Hoops, a magician). What sets it apart is the setting. The only thing that beats starting off Saturdays in Fells Point is ending Friday nights there.
