Best Restaurant for Vegetarians: the Land of Kush

Best Restaurant for Vegetarians

The Land of Kush

840 N. Eutaw St., (410) 225-5874, thelandofkush.com

Dining out in Baltimore, vegetarians—and especially vegans—are often faced with an easy, unsatisfying choice, something like: Gee, should I get the salad or the salad sandwich? At the Land of Kush, a delectable vegan soul food restaurant that opened in January, every item on the menu is aimed at the animal-avoidant. But carnivores, take note. This ain’t second-class food. The BBQ “ribs” are slathered in a flavorful sweet sauce and have that resistance to the tooth one associates with meat. The sweet and sour seitan, the mac ‘n’ “cheese,” the smoked collard greens—all are flavorful, hearty, and bold. We especially like the house-made ginger drink, with a kick that could well stand in for caffeine, and the addictive, healthy raw kale coated in spicy sauce. Plus, check this, from Kush’s web site: “Our menu is a living, breathing entity. We modify it based on customer feedback.” As far as we’re concerned, no modification necessary. But it’s nice to know someone’s finally got our back. Or rather, our belly.
