Best Reason to Go to Fells Point During the Day: 25 cent oysters for Friday Happy Hour at Koopers Tavern

Best Reason to Go to Fells Point During the Day

25 cent oysters for Friday happy hour at Kooper’s Tavern

1702 Thames St., (410) 563-5423, koopers.com

Happy hour is pretty dead in Fells, we guess because the area still evokes the image of late-night sloppy-drunk weekend debauchery. Even on Friday, anytime before say 8 o’clock, you’re pretty golden for parking. And that’s probably why Kooper’s has such an awesome deal going on. Forget the free buffet inside—outside on the sidewalk it’s quarter oysters! On one recent evening, nearly everyone who stopped to ask how much the oysters cost a) did a cartoon-like double- and/or spit-take, and b) promptly got in line. It’s like, why even bother charging at all? Not that we’re complaining. Our personal record in one visit: 30 oysters, which cost the same as the three domestic drafts we chased them down with. Insanity.
