Best Pit Beef

Pioneer Pit Beef

1600 North Rolling Road, Woodlawn

This shack, seemingly dropped Wizard of Oz-style behind a somewhat grotty-looking liquor store, does not take cards. We know this because of the many, many signs reading cash only. So bring cash, OK? And it’s not that easy to find. It’s right off the western loop of 695—like, you can see the highway from the parking lot—but we’re never quite sure we’re going to happen across it again. Even the GPS is like, Dude, I know it looks weird, but I think this is the way, seriously. Regardless, we bring cash and we make the drive, because this is the pit beef that you always hope to get when you order pit beef, but you don’t because most pit beef is just not that good. This is. Really good, that is.
