Best Overlooked Restaurant: Ethel and Ramones

1615 Sulgrave Ave.,, (410) 664-2971

The spot-on creole-with-a-Maryland-twist fare at Ethel and Ramone’s deserves more lauding than this little restaurant gets. Maybe it’s the location—sleepy little Mount Washington Village isn’t much of a dining hotspot, despite several worthy eateries—that keeps people from sitting down to mountains of jambalaya, killer gumbo, perfect baby-back ribs, and sensational Delmarva crab cakes. Maybe it’s the prices, which are admittedly a little bit high for the comfort-food feel of the place, especially for lunch. One thing’s certain, the food isn’t the issue, as we’ve never had a bite here that didn’t please, and the portions are truly generous. If you haven’t been to Ethel and Ramone’s, you’re missing out.
