Best Late-Night Dining

Nam Kang

2126 Maryland Ave., (410) 685-6237

Nam Kang is the king of late-night dining. This Korean restaurant’s 4 a.m. closing time has cemented many friendships and facilitated countless hookups over the last decade. When the bars close and the conversation is too good to quit, you’re not quite sure if you want to get naked with that new acquaintance, or you’re just plain starved, Nam Kang is almost the only place to go. And it’s hard to think of a better choice. There’s something a little Blade Runner about walking down into the basement on a rainy night, and the complimentary banchan—the tangy, spicy collection of small plates like kimchi, pickled cucumbers with Korean pepper, and potatoes in chile sauce—are almost enough all by themselves. But the rest of the menu is impossible to resist, especially the pungent, steaming broths that put the life back in your bones and fortify your soul for the predawn streets.
