Best Iced Tea

Atwater’s, Belvedere Square Market

529 E. Belvedere Ave., (410) 323-2396, atwaters.biz

It’s the simplest of summer drinks—tea, water, ice, maybe sugar—but somehow assembling a drinkable, fresh-brewed iced tea is a task beyond the capabilities of an alarming number of eateries in this town. Either they give up entirely—offering only a selection of ambitiously flavored bottled teas—or they produce some manner of undrinkable house-made swill. We’ve had the thick, viscous product of too much steeping; the thin, barely brown liquid that has known only the ghost of a tea bag; the fancy herbal varieties that make our throat itch with the faintly metallic tastes that no mere lemon slice can scour away. But when we want a real, honest black tea, we head to Atwater’s Belvedere Square Market outpost, where we can always count on a crisp, snappy, refreshing glass of the good stuff. Aaaah.
