Baltimore Dining

Best Falafel

Shapiro’s Cafe

7 W. Preston St., (443) 220-0050,

Might Shapiro’s be Baltimore’s most platonically perfect falafel? The Mount Vernon cafe’s pita is baked for a few seconds too long so it’s chewy but firm, and the falafel is soft but not goopy and, of course, fried, but not like, concrete-tough-spheres-of-chickpea-that-sit-in-your-stomach-for-hours-afterward fried, you know? The hot sauce is a great flavor to throw on there, along with the veggies and tahini sauce if you want to mix it up, and, well, if you’re feeling like a real fatty, get a cup of the homemade matzo ball soup to go along with your meal. All that will still keep you under the $10 mark, which is just ridiculous.
